SMITHBOWER? What is the meaning of this surname?
Does anyone know what SMITHBOWER means?
I do know the family originally came from Germany
in the early 1800's. I've done a little searching and
found lots of information on Smith and some on bower.
But could it really mean a blacksmith's cottage?

If this is a German surname, it was SCHMIDBAUER in Germany. This denotes a person who is a smith and a farmer at the same time.
WOW! That was fast! Thanks so much!!! Now I can trace further
and perhaps even find a family crest too. Have a great day!
