Pivas
Does anyone know the meaning/origin of this name? I think it is Serbian or Croatian, it has an accent on the 's', and it is pronounced like "Pee-vash". Thanks!

Could it be something to do with beer? A brewer? A boozer? Pivo is the Russian for beer, and Pivar means "brewer". Piwo is the Polish for beer, and there is a Polish surname, Piwnik, which means either a brewer or a drinker of beer, I forget which. What is the Serbo-Croat for beer?

the dictionary says in Croatian beer is "piva" or "pivo" and brewer is "pivar". it doesn't know the word "pivas".

"Piwo is the Polish for beer, and there is a Polish surname, Piwnik, which means either a brewer or a drinker of beer, I forget which."It would be brewer.

Some Pivas also live in Italy near Genoa (see www.paginebianche.it, tape IM for Imperia). Three families in Germany, perhaps one in France.
Honestly i don't know. Derived from the given name Pavle pr Pavao (Paul)?
