Re: Origin & Meaning of LACEY?
in reply to a message by Marc
Though some Irish Laceys/Lacys are of the same origin as the English Laceys, the Lacys of Limerick, where the name is best represented, are, according to Edward MacLysaght, descended from another family once called Del Essé, later De Lees. This was the family of the Russian general Count Peter Lacy (1678-1751).
Some others may be of the Irish family formerly called Ó Laitheasa, though they are usually known as Leacy.
