How about Irish? It looks Irish, maybe an adaptation of Quillan, Keelan, Quinlan? Wikipedia has an article on the Irish in Puerto Rico, here -

One of the surnames mentioned is Quinlan, but no Kuilan. The letter K is a mystery though. Still there are the Cuban Kindelans of Irish origin.
