HEMMIG 1700-1800'S
THERE IS A TOMB STONE IN THE REAR OF MY PARENTS HOME THAT WE USUALLY PLAYED NEAR GROWING UP. THIS HAD THE NAMES OF HEMMIG THAT CAME FROM SWITZERLAND IN THE 1700'S IF THIS HELPS ANY IT IS LOCATED IN KENHORST, PENNA.

I wonder if this might have developed from the old German forename, Helmwig.
It does appear to be a Swiss surname, as your information suggests, and to have its early North American home in Pennsyvania. It could be "Pennsylvania Dutch",I suppose.
