Lizotte
I've been looking for the possible meaning to my last name for a while now. I know it's French, and there are a few spellings of it, though the most popular, it seems, being Lizotte. I've also seen Lisotte and Lesotte, I believe. Origin wise I'm told it is from South Central France. That's really it. I'm wondering if anybody has any ideas to its possible meaning.

Lizotte is a French-Canadian alteration of Lizot which is probably derived from Élise, a short form of Élisabeth. The first bearer of the name in North America was Guillaume Lizot from Calvados in Normandy who married Anne Pelletier in Québec City in 1670.
