Anyone have an idea on the origin of the surname Gogo?
My surname is Gogo. Any ideas on where this came from? My family does not know much of our ancestors so we have no clue where we came from.

Gogo was a nickname given to a French-Canadian family named Prieur after they moved to Ontario. No one seems to know where it came from. You'll find more details on this at http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.gogo/21/mb.ashx and http://genforum.genealogy.com/prieur/messages/21.html

In Greek, Bulgarian and Russian, the G sounds in the name George is not changed at softening and remains the same as in Gabriel. In Bulgarian, for instance, Gogo is a childish nickname standing for George.
