Meaning of Jovic or Jovovic
Does anyone know the meaning of the last name Jovic (also Jovovic)? Does it come from a short form of the name Jovan (John in english)?
As far as I know, Slavs often use short forms of personal names like Ante (from Antun/Anton, Anthony in english), Stane (from Stanislav), Rade (from Radoslav), etc, so I thought that Jovic or Jovovic might come from Jove, a possible short form of Jovan - Jovan is just a variant of Ivan, very similar to the italian form of the name John (Giovanni).

According to Hanks & Hodges' A Dictionary of Surnames, Jović and Jovović are forms of John in Croatian.
