Maybe a new one for you
I have been trying to find the origin of a family surname Eplen. I have not been able to find a conclusive origin. The name has popped up in a census in England from the 1860's and as early as 1645 in Germany. There was a family history done years ago tracing the migration of the family across the united states, but it did not go very far back as it was done in the dark ages before internet. Sadly the information was lost in a fire. I have found references the it may be an adaptation of the german name Applin, or Epplin. I'm stumped, what do yall guys think?

Ep(p)len is a German name derived from Epp which is short for Eberhard, from eber- 'wild boar' and hard 'brave, strong'.
