Re: origin of surname Bremer
As a German surname it means someone from the city of Bremen (in the north of Germany). As a Dutch surname it could also be from Breemhaar, which is like Braamhaar, made from the elements breem and haar , the first meaning "broom" (the plant) and the latter "higher agricultural field". Braamhaar is a placename that no more exists.
