From one of the several English, and one Scottish, place-names called Haddon or Hadden. Haddon is said to mean "heathery hill". The DEN ending in the Scottish instance may mean valley.
There are Haddons in Derbyshire, Dorset, etc., and a Hadden, or Halden in Scotland, near the English border.
