It is in fact an american surname coming fom Austria or South Tyrol or maybe Switzerland. could anyone tell me its origin?

There are a few of the name in Germany, but Monauni appears to be a name of the Swiss-Italian frontier. Which side it originated on is beyond me, as is the original language. Here -
