Re: Meaning of CAMBIE?
This is a hard one to pin down. It's definitely Scottish but Black's The Surnames of Scotland lists it without giving any etymology. However, the BC Combies appear to come from Ireland according to the information at http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp. Moreover, the name is found in both northern and southern France which suggests two different sources there.

If Cambie is a variant of Combie then the likelihood is that it is the same as McCombie. This last is an English language spelling of MacThomaidh, "son of Tommy".
