Suname Buffington
Buffington is a family Surname often redered Bovanton, Bovandon of Buffingdon and I was wondering what it means.
Does it perhaps have anything to do with the nickname Buffy often used for Elizabeth? Ton usually means Town, I know but what if it's French?
I belive the original spelling is Bovanton and that it is French and pronounced boh-vawn-tawn. Can anyone confirm this or tell me what it means? If so I'd be very grateful!

Could be a variant of the surname Bofington which comes from the English place-name Bovington, in Dorset. There is also a place-name Bovingdon, in Hertfordshire. According to the Oxford Dictionary of English Place Names, both names incorporate an Old English personal name, Bofa (male).
