Does anyone know the meaning, origin, pronounciation of de Vere?

Family name of the Earls of Oxford.
Pron. "deh VEER", the "de" having a short E sound, as in Erin or Evan.
De Vere is an anglicization of French de Ver 'from Ver', the name of a number of places in the north of France. I imagine it rhymes with veer.
