Re: Origin/Ethnicity of the last name Dominguez (m)
This surname comes from the masculin first name DOMINGO, a name that is derived from the latin "Dominicus" (blessed by Lord). Such a name is typical of roman catholic countries like FRANCE and ITALY as well.
Besides Dominguez the surnames coming from Doming are several in Spanish.

Ultimately, they're all from the Latin, 'dominus' meaning 'lord' or 'master' which is related to 'dominate'...hence, Sunday is the "Lord's Day".

BTW, both Mexico and the Philipines were both Spanish colonies ...

One more thing ...I believe the -ez in Spanish names was brought into Spain by the Visigoths (One of the Germanic tribes overrunning the last of the Roman Empire in the 4th and 5th Centures) ...it means "son of" ...however the use the letter 'z' in Spanish may be an Arab remnant of the Moors.

I would just like to add that Domingo means Sunday, (the day of the Lord) and this name was traditionally given to children born on Sunday. So I would translate Dominguez as 'son of the man born on the day-of-the-Lord'.
Place of origin must be Spain itself.
