It could possibly be from the Roman family name Albanius which means "from Alba" in Latin.

It is also mentioned as a variation of Alban, an English surname with at least 2 origins. (the saint and the town St.Albans.) See http://home.clara.net/rowlands/alban.htm . The Latin first name Albinus, meaning 'fair-complexioned' is another possible origin.
