Can anyone point me to the meaning of the French surname Magnol, as in Pierre Magnol, namesake of the magnolia tree?

that there are several places in France called 'Le Magnol', one possible source of the name.
Alternatively he suggests that it could be a diminutive of the male given name MAGNE, which is from the Latin Magnus, meanng "great".
