Hi. I am looking for information on the surnames Eden and Bethany. Formerly, I thought they were just place names used as first names but now I've gotten curious having met people with these as their last names. Any information would be great!

First name or surname, Bethany is of Biblical origin. I've collected 3 translations in ten minutes, there may be more... 1.'house of figs' 2.'the house of a person named Ananiah' 3.'house of the boat'.

Eden is a not only a British surname but a German one as well.
In both cases it comes from an old first name.
In Germany it comes from very old first names like "Edo"
or "Odo".

I am not sure about Bethany. All I know is tha it comes probably from a feminine first name.
