It's probably spelt with a dot over the initial Z (¯uchowski), showing that it should be pronounced something like a French J. There are some in Poland, according to www.herby.com.pl who spell the name as you have it, but far less than with the dotted Z. Anyway I think that it could be a result of sloppy spelling or handwriting.
Bear in mind that a female with the surname would have a different ending, i.e., -ska.
