It's a variant spelling of Cullen, an Irish surname. It is from the counties of Dublin, Meath, Wicklow and Wexford. In Irish the name is 'O Cuilinn' and is probably derived from cuileann, a holly bush. Go to http://www.booksaliveo.8m.com/c/cullen/cullen.htm for details.
