Re: Pruce (from Prussia?) meaning?
in reply to a message by Paul
Pruce is an English name. It's a variant of Prouse/Prowse which comes from Old French prous 'valiant, doughty'. It has nothing to do with Prussia which apparently comes from Lithuanian prut 'pond, lake'.

Pruce could derive from the city Prusse, which modern name is Bursa a city in Turkey.
