origin/ethnicity of surnames
I'm looking for information about a few different surnames:

*Marchand (which I believe is french for merchant)
*Agard
*Purefoy (English for pure faith?)
*Mughira
*Assayag
*Yspalensis

I would really appreciate any help!

Marchand is very typical of France. In that country it is the 51st surname, spread everywhere.
Purefoy is english but it comes from the old Frenche, probably it is from an old nickname "parfois", "sometimes"
Assayag or Essayag orAssayagh are surnames of old jewish origin.
They come really from Spain when the Jews were expelled (XVIth century I think). These surnames mean "goldsmith".
I am not sure about MUGHIRA (Muguirra?) Agard is also a French surname but it comes from BARBADOS? Does it?
I have found nothing about Yspalensis (?)
