Does anyone have two surnames?
I have noticed that there are plenty of people with two or three middle names, but I have seen very few people that actually have two surnames, so I wanted to know if anyone knew of someone that did. Thanks.

i have three surnames - which, being portuguese, is not a rare thing.
portuguese babies are given the mother's surname as well as the father's surname. quite often, the maternal and/or paternal grandmother's surname is also given. confusing?not really:
isabel margarida (my middle names)tranquada (my maternal grandmother's surname)gomes(my mother's maiden name) de ornelas(my father's surname).

i am portuguese and, normally in portugal you have the mother's surname and the father's surname - the latter being your last name. very frequently - actually, most of the time - the surname of the maternal and paternal grandmother is also given to the baby.confusing?not really:

My mother does have two surnames but she's German. She got married and took his name and her maiden name! So her Name is RENATE SIEBLITZ-OBERMEIER...:)
Here in Germany it's not allowed to give your children two surnames!
Just imagine they would marry someone who also has 2 surnames but want to keep their name...then you have 4! So it's not allowed here.

O, I see. Was that all one name?
I think it's more than one.
VAN is not a lastname. Just like "von" or "zu" with German last names...it's just a part that shows where they belong or were they come from. Mostly noble families like dukes, kings and stuff. Or really rich and important families.
