Their is a girl at my work with the last name Cherevataya. I always wanted to ask her where she was from or her what her heritage was. But now she is out and I'm having a hard time finding out what kind of surname is it and what is the meaning. Any help? Thanks.

Cherevataya is the feminine form of the Russian surname Cherevaty but I don't know the etymology.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I once knew a Polish man with the surname Czerwaty and he said it means Red Wool, but Czerewaty means cherry cotton I think. I don't know if the names are related or not, but they are similiar since polish is "Cz" and Russian is "Ch", and polish is "Wa" and russian is "Va".
