What is the meaning of the surname HATZMAN
Hi,

I would like to know the meaning of the surname HATZMAN. I believe it is of German origin. But I'm not sure. I've searched numerous websites and cannot find anything. Please help!

HATZMAN is rather dutch. instead HATZMANN exists in Holland, Germany an Austria, but this surname is rather rare: not even 1000 persons per
each country.
I have a dictionary of german surnames but this surname is not considered so it means that it is not very important.
I have found out HATZ that it means "magpie", the name of a bird.
I ignore the meaning of the Dutch variant.
The number of immigrant in USA is nothing between 1890 and 1930.

There were roughly 200 Hatzmans in Holland in 1947, and they were all descended from a German soldier from Nassau Dietz. He married in 1820.
Grimm's Woerterbuch contains the word Hatz, Hatzen. It signifies a method of hunting with dogs: hounding, baiting (compare 'hetzen'), a set of hounds, etc.
