eschscholtz
dos anyone know the etymology of the surname eschscholtz? I'm guessing the lexemes are esch and scholtz but holtz may mean "forest", anyone knows the answer to this German enigma?

Eschscholtz is a bizarre alteration of Eschholz, a placename which means 'ash wood'. The only person who seems to have borne it was Johann Friedrich von Eschscholtz (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eschscholtz).

Thank's Marc, I just needed the meaning because I knew bikini meant "coconut surface" so I need to know what Eschcholtz meant because the guy you mention gave the first name to Bikini Atoll (where the nuclear bombs were first tested which was the reason bikinis got their name; until bikinis the shortest swiming suits for females where atomes)
