Meaning of Eigster?

I can't find this anywhere and I'm not at all familiar with German, so I can't make a guess. Some of my relatives have the surname Eyster, but it appears to have been Eigster before they immigrated from the Palatinate to the US in the early 18th century.

Answers and best guesses are both greatly appreciated!

The Eigster-Aister-Eyster-Oyster connection is very complicated as you can see at tinyurl.com/7mtyy8q. The first two are found in Germany but they're very rare. I really can't tell what the original form would have been.
