Villegas = Villa Egas
I cant continue in the other post but I ask here... if Villegas means "Villa Egas"... What does Egas means? Here I got a possibility (edge of the sword)so Villa Egas would be "Dwelling at the edge of the sword")... But... Is it correct? Villa Egas

Villa Egas means 'Egas' country estate'. Egas is a Spanish surname but I don't know its etymology. The evidence for a Germanic origin seems pretty skimpy to me.
thanks, well I got this user-submitted etymology in the name counterpart to this site, that is why I thought "Egas" would be of Germanic origin... I have never heard of no one with the surname Egas and I am Peruvian and therefore part of the hispanosphere
You'll find the surname Egas in Spain at http://www.infobel.com/en/spain/.
I see, its a trully unusual surname I guess
http://www.misapellidos.com/significado-de-Venegas-38861.html this article in Spanish says that there is a possibility the surname Egas comes from a teutonic (german) origin like the names Edgar and such
The Diccionario de apellidos españoles, which is the most up-to-date and reliable dictionary of Spanish surnames in my estimation, says that Venegas is an "apellido de origen dudoso". Two possibilities are given: (1) "un nombre arábigo formado de la partícula ben-, 'hijo de'" (note the variant Benegas); (2) "un nombre vascuense en relación con el vasco be(h)en, 'de abajo'". There's no indication that the -egas part has anything to do with Villegas.
Well if "ben" is estimated to be "hijo de" which means "son of"... Would "Benegas" be "son of Egas"? SO that's another surname where "Egas" is a name... Like "Perez" is "son of Per" (Pedro=Piedra=Stone) and Villaper or Villapiedra would be "Stone Village" (Villa is "villa" or "village")
