Surname Help!!!
Hello.
I am from the family of Felix, and I am really interested in history, geography, culture and linguistics. So, of course I want to find out definitively from the 'name experts' where my surname is from.
Now, I know Felix is a popular name. It means happy in most of the romance languages. But I would like to know if anyone has any clues about the origins of the name.
I suspect it is from the Roman Empire, but I was thinking slightly closer than that.
Our family has been in Britain for a long time. Our family tree which we have made goes back to the 1800s, and we have been British serfs for the whole time.
My Grandfather is from Wales, from a particular sub-family, if you will, named the "Lloyd Felixes". His name was Glyn Felix, and his father's name was Lloyd. We have dumped the "Lloyd" as we presume there is no need for it, as we suspect Lloyd's father never had other kids, and so never continued the pure-blood Felix line.
If anyone can help, please respond.
Thanks,
Felbah

Felix in Britain has been traced back to the 12th century as you can see at tinyurl.com/lgvnfh5. It's simply a given name that became a surname as did so many others.
