Tonin
I'm trying to find some information on my last name, Tonin, which seems to be a family mystery. No one really knows what it means or where it originated from. It might be Irish, English or even Italian but I don't know for sure. The family tree is very barren there. Can anyone find out it's ethic background and meaning? Thank you!

My grandfather on my mother's side was Johan Tonin from Slovenia, naturalization U.S. citizen 1914. The Tonon family lived in Hrusevica, Slovenia from 1765 to present. 270 years the Tonin family lived in Hrusevica.

Try the American USA history of immigration for the name. Immigrants from Spain and Italy have that name. Cheers
Tonin is a variant of Italian Tonini whose origin you'll find at http://www.ancestry.com/name-origin?surname=tonini. The surname is also Slovenian but I don't know if it has the same origin.
This surname comes probably from Venice area. Mianly near the cities of Vicenza or Treviso.
It comes from the venetian first name Toni, in Italian Antonio. Il in is a suffix for the diminutive form

Giacomo / milano (Italy)
