My guess is that it's from a personal name Eltrich, composed, like Dutch Aldrik, of ald- and rik meaning "old" and "mighty". Or possibly, like Aldrik, a metathesis (position exchange of consonants) of Adelrik, composed of adel and rik, the first meaning "noble".
