Swiss surname Bringolf
What is the origin of the Swiss surname Bringolf? I looked up Bahlow (Deutsches Namenbuch) with no result. The ending -olf could derive from a given name, but the start Bring- does not match.

Or "-olf" could mean "wolf" as in Adolf

Yes. My newset idea is to take the the whole -golf as the outcome of -wolf (with some french influence, where Germanic W became a (hard) G, like in Guillaume [=Wilhelm]). Then, Brin can be a reflex of BRUN (Brown) or BRYN (armor, protection). But without historical data, this is only a hypothesis.
