Van Winden
I am looking for the origins of the Dutch name 'Van Winden'. I understand it is a common name in the Netherlands but I can't seem to find much about it. I have a family crest that says ''famille-wapen anno 1530'. Thank you for any assistance.

For meaning, I usually go to a language dictionary. So "winde" means "any of several vines of the genera Convolvulus and Calystegia having a twining habit." according to my online Dutch translater.
So maybe that's discriptive of the area they're from.

It is from a place name. There is a town called Winde in Northern Netherlands, but the distribution shows it to be mainly in the south. Perhaps from the name of a farm or farms.
