I am sure I've seen this surname before and its German but... What does it mean? I dobut it shares any meaning with its English homophone so?

Krapp is the Low German variant of Krapf whose origin you'll find at http://www.ancestry.com/name-origin?surname=krapf. It has nothing to do with English Crapper for which see tinyurl.com/l97tddq.
thanks :D
I don't know German but this article may have the answer -
http://www.farbimpulse.de/Rot-aus-einer-Pflanzenwurzel-Krapp.177.0.html
From what I can gather Krapp is the name of a dye, perhaps no longer in use. If so the name may be a metonymic for a dyer.
