origin of surname "Boleratz"
Ethnic background:
1. one US Federal census has my great-grandfather listing place of birth Hungary
2. another US Federal census has my great-grandfather listing place of birth Germany
Can anyone tell me where the name Boleratz comes from? I had always figured it was German, but I am having problems finding anyone with that name.
The only name I can find close to that is Boleratzky.
Thank you in advance,
Caroll

Adam, Zsuzsanna and Mihály Boleratz arrived in the US in 1898 (see tinyurl.com/nw3bhdm). The last two given names are the Hungarian equivalents of Michael and Susan. On the Ellis Island website at tinyurl.com/n8vw53x, they're listed as coming fom Antalvava/Autalfalva but there's no such place. The closest seems to be Antaltanya in Hungary. Boleratzky is also found in Hungary as per tinyurl.com/ojml3q6. Polereczki seems to be another variant and this looks a lot like Slovak Polerecký. In sum, Boleratz comes from Hungary but it's definitely not Hungarian in origin.
Thank you so very much!
