Guscott
My friend's surname is Guscott. His family says it means "keeper of the geese", but he doesn't know where they got that info from. It's probably English, probably from around Devon? Apparently there's a lot of black people with the name, so presumably the family owned a lot of slaves? Does anyone have any more info on this?

The surname Guscott comes from two places so named in Devon. It was first recorded as Godescote (1386) and Godiscote (1303). The black people you're referring to all seem to be in England. Bearers of the name didn't arrive in the US until the mid to late 1800s.
