My friend's surname is Kumon and he is living in Burlington, VT. He said he is a distant relative of educator Mr. Toru Kumon(who died in 1995). I want to know about the origin of the surname Kumon.

This is a Jewish surname. A variant of Kaminski. Mr. Toru Kumon was born in Lublin, Eastern Poland.
