CROUCH: My first guess would have been "cross" (via Italian "croce" maybe), but this is what I found:

MENKHUS sounds rather Dutch or maybe Frisian to me. My guess: "house of Menke" (ask Menke, what this means; he hasn't visited this board for a while, but I tink I remember, he said his name means "little man")
