Locklear
Hello. I wanted to know what was going on with this name? I don't see it on the website as a Native American Name. I sent it in as a correction in November 2023. I was thinking I should've just submitted and not submitted as a correction. I wasn't sure if the name being English was correct. I said that when I submitted Locklear as a Lumbee name. When sent in this name it was the first time I submitted a name on this site.

It doesn't seem like anyone has acted on your submitted correction at this point ( https://surnames.behindthename.com/submit/discuss.php?id=251396 ). I am going to move this post to the surname message board where an editor might more readily see it.If you want, you could submit it as a parallel name to the existing Locklear entry. If it turns out the name does have two unconnected origins then they should be separate entries anyways.

alternately the English name may have been a substitution or folk etymology (an unfamiliar name reworked into a familiar contemporary English form) of the similar-sounding native name (forced or voluntary assimilation). In which case you might place a note cross-linking to an entry for a derivation or form of the Native American name.
