Can anyone provide me with additional information as to the surname Acosta which so I heard comes from ancient Romans?

In addition to it being a Portugese/Spanish name, I found it is an altered spelling of the surname, Da Costa.

Well it's Portuguese and that language derives from Latin, but I don't think there were any Ancient Romans called Acosta.

This surname derives from a portuguese word that means "coast" or "beach". See the italian word "costa" or spanish "cuesta".
