In USA the surname Piazza ranks 4845, in fact it is quite popular!
More than half of the Piazza who have gone to USA are of sicilian origin. But there are Piazza families in Northern Italy too.
This surname comes from names of places. there are at least four towns or villages called Piazza around Italy: the most important is PIAZZA-ARMERINA in Sicily.
The meaning of this place name could be "a flat area", "a place without trees or houses" or even a "market place".
