where is my name from?
congratulations on your site!
i am a portuguese 20-year old, from the island of madeira.i am curious to know the origin of my maternal grandmother's surname - "tranquada". no-one in the family knows where it comes from, and it certainly is an unusual surname in the portuguese language.i have searched the web and only found the name "tranquada" regarding people of my own family. if you could tell me where my surname comes from, i would appreciate that very much.

Sorry, I'm not sure where it comes from, but it certainly resembles the word "tranquil" obviously meaning calm or serene ...I'd guess it has Latin roots and is simply a rare name ...

ok. thanks for the hunch, it probably is a latin name and i hadn´t really thought about the resemblance to the word tranquil. well, if i´m bound to be unsure about it, i guess tranquil is a nice enough meaning!thanks!

I have discovered that it is from HONOLULU, Haway Islands.
This surname is extremely rare in USA.
