surname MATAVA
Could anybody tell me the origin of this Hungarian surname, beared in USA.

I don't know Hungarian, but I did look at a couple of Hungarian name sites and though it is not a Indo-European language it is surrounded by Indo-European languages. So, it looks like many of the names have Indo-European roots.
Matava looks to me like a form of Matthew which has its origin in Hebrew, meaning "gift of God" ...just my guess since no one else has responded.
