Moens is a patronym, meaning it derived from a firstname of a father, i.e. 'son of...', like Abrahams is 'son of Abraham' and Simons is 'son of Simon'. Well, Moens is thus 'son of Moen'. The firstname Moen is a pet form of Simoen, which is variant of Simon. There is also the surname Mons, 'son of Mon'.
