Oosterom and Legakis
I was wondering if anyone knew the meanings of my current last name and my maiden name.
my last name is Oosterom. I know its Dutch.
my maiden name is Legakis, which is Greek.
Any help would be very appreciated!

The Legakis surname comes from Naxos island. Some Legakis moved to Lakonia, Peloponnese in the 18th or 19th century, so the name can be found there too.
I've found the following on the Dutch surname database of the Meertens Institute on Oosterom. It based on a placename, presently Oostrum. There are three places called that, one near Houten, province of Utrecht, one in Frisia and one in Limburg. Oostrum means Oosterheem : easternly situated settlement, as opposed to Westerheem/Westrum.
If you have any Dutch: more details on http://www.meertens.knaw.nl/nfd/detail_naam.php?naam=Oosterom

Oosterom, I believe, means something like 'eastern place'
Greek names are usually patronymic and the ending often suggest where their origins are. I found one site the suggested that the -is ending originated in Crete.
The root word was harder to find. One possibility may be that it comes from wolf = ëýêïò, ãõíáéêïêáôáêôçôÞò
lykos, gynaikokataktitis
But this is just a guess ...
