Surname; Hamnett
i have been researching my family history for the past 7 months and would dearly love to know where my surname originates. My daughter came home from school today and informed me that her friend had seen our name in a book which said that "as Smith is widespread in England, Hamnett is the same in Egypt." I have been asked in the past if my name is Morroccan or even Turkish. If anyone out there can help me, i would be ever so grateful. A big THANK YOU in advance, Suz

im another Hamnett searching for info on the name! any info greatly appreciated!
Hamnett Egyptian? Surely not. Are you thinking of Hamid?
Hamnett, to my knowledge, is English. A diminutive of the old male given name, Hamon, which is from the Germanic name, Hamo. I don't know what that means and I don't know that anyone else does. Shakespeare called his son Hamnett.
