"Del" corresponds to the Irish "O'" or scottish "Mac" it means "the son of". Grosso was at first a nick name referring to a person having a big build: tall and strong, but not fat in fact.
Del Grosso is a variant o Grosso and Grossi, surnames more common around Italy.
