Konakova is the last name of one of the children at my theatre and they assume it is in connection to the last name Kournakova, but they aren't sure. That are of German or Polish(?) background if that helps.

It's probably so ...hard to tell often ...I found on my Russian site that the "Kon-" means "end", but it often means "peasant" ...who knows, maybe because they're the end of the line ...at least in terms of importance ...

Most often, from what I've seen, spellings are pretty arbitrary ...so you can usually link like words that are close in either sound or spelling ...if they're from the same language root ...
