I don't think the spelling is very German, but I believe the name is. It's a variant of Heinrich (Henry), and a more normal German spelling would be HINZ. In Germany there is the phrase "Hinz und Kunz" meaning "everyone". It's from Heinrich and Konrad, two very widespread names in the late Middle Ages.

Thanks for cheering me up a bit, Sean. It can be a bit frustrating when people (not few) don't respond at all to an answer given on the board. You don't even know whether or not they ever read it. So it's good to see, somebody else did.
